... before you entered the building you could
relax, sit back and let it fill you as the light
hearted comedy unfolded.
Local community theater at its best is what I
enjoyed last night. Playright Bill Douglas has
written a wonderful vehicle that introduced
many new young thespians to our local stage.
The kids of our town sang and danced and
delivered their lines joyously as they stole the
show from some of our favorite veteran
performers. Douglas was (as always) fun to
watch as he and John Cody led us through the
enchanted Land of the Night Before finally
bringing us to Christmas morning and a
reminder of the true meaning of the Holiday.
Gene Langley and Brian Smith really do feel like old friends of ours
when we see them again on the SLCA stage as the Toymaker and a
Father in the play. Over the years both men have shown their
talents and willingness to take on whatever roles the directors
ordered. Kudos guys!
But how about the kids. Lots of them. Snowmen, reindeer, dancers
and chorus. They were great. They performed well and enjoyed the
uplifting experience that theater can offer. As I looked around me I
saw plenty of proud Moms and Dads and Grandparents in the
audience and they were smiling and happy and enjoying the
performance also.
So if you're not in the spirit yet, hurry up and purchase your tickets
while they last. Visit the Land of the Night Before and awake to the
happy Christmas morning that comes after.
