| Gas Prices Double Since Obama Inauguration Obama took office January 20, 2009. Gas prices that day averaged $1.84 a gallon. Today, the average price is $3.65 + per gallon. Obama has called for an investigation into "price gouging" by sellers, "price manipulation" by traders and "oil companies' tax subsidies." Senator Chuck Schumer demands an investigation into "oil companies profits" and also a "windfall profits tax" on these profits. Neither has spoken in support of more oil exploration in the US nor drilling the NY Marcellus Shale for natural gas. |
